Batting first, Burghley posted a competitive 148/7 from their 30 overs, anchored by a superb unbeaten 40 from T Biggs. At just 11 years old and playing only his second senior game, Biggs showed remarkable composure and maturity, batting through to the close of the innings.

J Collins (17) and A Marshall (27) both played well, lifting the run rate in the final third of the innings to help Burghley finish strongly. There were also useful contributions down the order from J Tizzard (18), B Parker (9), T Hamilton (6), F Jones (4) and F Ball (3*).

It was another excellent opportunity to expose our juniors to senior cricket, with H Collins, J Collins, F Jones and T Hamilton all featuring alongside T Biggs. It's fantastic to see our younger players continuing to make the step up and gain valuable experience at this level.

With the ball, H Collins was outstanding, keeping the scoring rate in check with a superb six-over spell of 0/15. T Biggs also impressed, taking 2/20 from his 4 overs, while F Jones chipped in with 1/28. T Hamilton bowled particularly well too, beating the bat on several occasions and unlucky not to come away with a wicket. J Collins also contributed with the ball.

Cedars reached their target of 151/3 in 28.5 overs, powered by a fine 71 from J Jarvis and an unbeaten 42 from T Stonebridge.

A disappointing result on the scoreboard, but plenty of positives to take from the afternoon — particularly the performances of our younger players and the continued integration of juniors into senior cricket.

And with that, the curtain comes down on our home fixtures for 2026. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the club at Burghley throughout the season — players, volunteers, scorers, umpires, parents, families and supporters.
