Burghley welcomed first time opposition Wellow Exiles to the Park on a sunny and warm bank holiday Monday. Winning the toss, captain David Popple asked Wellow to field and with Gareth Hook and Andrew Murphy as openers, was confident of a good start. This proved to be the case with 104 on the board before Hook (after hitting a chanceless 57) lost his castle to Allen, attempting a hook into next week. Murphy got to typically stylish 47 before losing his wicket to Simpson (who ended up with 5-31). Kavin Viswanathan lost no time at all in hitting the ball around the Park and made a sublime 61, all really enjoyed watching the Whippet crash the ball to the boundary 8 times. Popple (eager to improve on his 0 at Chatsworth) tried to get things going quickly however a delivery hit his pad high up and dropped onto his stumps, two ducks in 48 hours... Kavin and Jim McInstosh put on 34 before the latter was caught and Robbie McIntosh looked very composed before sadly failing victim to that man Simpson for 3 - adjudged LBW. Alex Marshall (under the watchful eye of his boss and wife!) got his innings off immediately with a lovely drive and soon swept and drove himself to 21. Sadly the tail did not wag with the likes of Matt Roberts (2) Ben Mace (6 including a lovely pull shot) and Josh Slade (another first ball duck) contributing little to the cause. Dave 'Pirate' Ford added a sole 1 to avoid the dreaded duck and Burghley finished on a par 225-10 off 40 overs.

Slade and R McIntosh led the reply and soon had the Wellow batsman playing and missing at regular intervals, McIntosh particularly impressed as his normal trade is leg-spin but kindly offered to bowl seam up. Slade bowled through and ended with 2-30 off 8, McIntosh 0-34 off 6.3. Ford soon took up residence at his favoured end but sadly was not as accurate as 48 hours before and conceded 67 from his 7 overs although he did take wicket of Mellors for 2. Mace came on and had a few chances but by this point Wisher was well set and before too long brought up his 100. J McInstosh applied the brakes at the Diana End only conceding 28 off his 7 overs with some wicked deliveries. Popple came on hoping to repeat the heroics of Saturday however the first two overs went for nearly 30 runs as Wisher and the obdurate Simpson tucked into loose balls. Popple did bring back his control and eventually only went for 8 runs in the following three overs including picking up Simpson for 45. Wellow captain Gary Farmer came to the crease and scored the winning runs. This would normally be unremarkable but Gary only has one leg and together with his earlier tidy bowling and expectational fielding with crutches (far quicker than most that day) the sight of a man with one leg batting proved to to be a truly inspirational sight and will long stick in the memory of those that played in the Park that day.
