Burghley Park produced a disciplined all-round performance to secure a five-wicket victory away at Market Deeping after skipper James Biggs won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The decision was quickly vindicated as Burghley's attack made early inroads into the Deeping top order. Lawrence Rayner struck in just his first over, trapping Taha Shahid lbw for 4, before removing Haroon Rehman for 4 and then claiming the key wicket of Rayan Malik for 11. When James Biggs had Samuel Reedman caught by Rayner for 8, the hosts had slipped to 21-3 and were firmly on the back foot.
Fahad Saad offered resistance with a well-compiled 35 from 50 balls, striking six boundaries, but Burghley continued to maintain control. Josh Gallimore produced an excellent spell of 1-12 from his nine overs, including two maidens, to remove Saad and keep the scoring rate in check.
Akmal Khan dug in for the hosts, making 33 from 96 balls, while Tim Lowe accelerated late in the innings with 30 from 36 deliveries. However, Burghley's bowlers remained disciplined throughout. Rayner finished with outstanding figures of 4-33 from his nine overs, while David Popple chipped in with 1-20 and Stephen Harker-Brown claimed a wicket with his only over of the innings.
Behind the stumps and in the field, Burghley backed up their bowlers well. Rayner held an important catch to dismiss Reedman, while Gallimore and Biggs also took catches as Market Deeping closed on 168-8 from their 45 overs.
Chasing 169 for victory, Burghley made a steady start through David Platt and Daniel Pellett. Although Pellett was dismissed lbw to Josh Carder for 15, Platt contributed a useful 24 from 38 balls to lay a platform.
The innings was then transformed by an outstanding knock from Josh Gallimore. Moving to number three, Gallimore dominated the chase with a superb 74 from just 64 balls, striking 10 fours and three sixes. His positive intent ensured Burghley remained ahead of the required rate throughout.
Gallimore shared important partnerships with Platt and Stephen Harker-Brown, who added a patient 12 from 31 deliveries. The defining moment came when Tim Lowe struck twice in consecutive deliveries to remove Harker-Brown and Bradley Hurn, reducing Burghley to 118-4 and briefly giving the home side hope.
Lowe was Market Deeping's standout bowler, returning figures of 3-22 from nine overs, while Carder was equally economical with 1-15 from seven overs.
However, Gallimore continued to attack and carried Burghley to the brink of victory before eventually becoming the fifth wicket to fall with just two runs required. Charles Sharpe remained unbeaten on 11, and captain James Biggs struck the winning boundary to finish unbeaten on 4 from two balls as Burghley reached 171-5 in only 32 overs.
The victory was built on a strong bowling display led by Rayner's four wickets and Gallimore's miserly spell, before Gallimore completed an excellent all-round contribution with a match-winning 74. Burghley ultimately chased down the target with 13 overs to spare to secure a deserved win at Market Deeping.
