Moulton Harrox CC 2nd XI won the toss and elected to bat, but a disciplined bowling performance from Burghley Park CC 2nd XI set up an impressive victory.
After choosing to bat first, Moulton Harrox made a steady start, with Z Maddison (21) and E Munasinghege (34) providing the backbone of the innings. At 88-2, the visitors were well placed to push on, but Burghley Park responded brilliantly.
A sharp middle-order collapse saw wickets tumble from 88-2 to 104-6, halting momentum and exposing the lower order. From there, Burghley Park maintained pressure to bowl Moulton Harrox out for 111, which could’ve been less if some more catches had stuck in the field.
The standout bowler was A Azhar (4-27 from 9 overs), well supported by S Biggs (2-22) and C Fish (2-18) in a controlled and clinical team performance.
Chasing 119, Burghley took only 15 overs to knock off the target, approaching the innings with positive intent throughout.
An early wicket saw A Briault book his first seat at the curry night, but C Biggs counterattacked superbly with a rapid 31 from just 15 balls, shifting momentum firmly in Burghley’s favour.
P Hewat, to a chorus of ‘one more year’ from the sidelines, calmly anchored the chase with an unbeaten 40, while J Gallimore (24*) provided strong support as the pair guided the side home comfortably.
A strong all-round display ensured Burghley Park CC 2nd XI capitalised after being put in the field. Excellent bowling control followed by aggressive, confident batting secured a convincing 20pt win.
