BPCC 2nd XI faced Long Sutton 2nd XI in their second Division1 game of the season determined to bounce back from a poor performance last week. Burghley won the toss and decided to bat first.
Things didn't start well with Hurn, Sorensen, Jackson and Harker-Brown falling cheaply. Burghley found themsleves 41 for 4 with Briault trying to steady the ship, lasting for 30 more balls than the 4 batsmen already departed but only totting up 21 runs before "Jim squared" put on the real first partnership. McIntosh and Biggs put on 74 runs between them, Biggs falling 5 short of his half century. In came Nick Fisher and Lewis Banthorpe who took the total from 153 to 273 in a fantastic partnership, Fisher unbeaten on 66 and Banthorpe making his 50 in the last over of the innings. An amazing middle order helped post a very decent total which wasn't looking likely after 15 overs!
Burghley were buoyed by heir batting display and Dinesh Swaminathan recovered quickly from his pad rash to put on a bowling spectacle, backed up by Banthorpe at the other end, both taking 2 wickets a piece. Long Sutton staged a comeback, Barnes and Norris had a good partnership until Fisher came on and dismissed Barnes. Harry Armstrong found his line and length in his 5th over and dismissed the dangerous looking Norris, and between them, finished off the tail. Armstrong 3 for 37 and Man of the Match Fisher 2 for 43 to add to his unbeaten 66 with the bat!
Maximum points for BPCC 2s who now have a week off before facing Freiston on Saturday 17th.
