Burghley Park 1st XI claimed a full 20 points with a 96 run victory over early league leaders Sleaford 2nds

Burghley Skipper Alex Ashwin won the toss and chose to bat on a wicket that looked like it could become useful for spinners in the second innings. Burghley started cautiously with the bowling of Giles Goddard & Simon Godby allowing very few bad balls. Burghley had moved to 41 without loss before Mike Hobbiss tried to up the run rate but could only offer a simple catch to Godby from the bowling of Goddard. Ryan Gilmour then joined Josh Gallimore and the pair put on 50, starting to score more freely before Josh Gallimore was forced to retire hurt for 33 after picking up a calf injury. This bought about a flurry of wickets for Sleaford. Gilmour was bowled by Tom Sanders for 29, Pete Foster cut the same bowler straight in to the hands of Rhys Collings and Chris Logan guided the ball in to the grateful hands of Warren Nel at slip after having planted the previous ball in to the adjoining gardens. David Platt also came and went quickly, chipping the ball back to Ben Lambert for a simple caught and bowled. Burghley found themselves 118-5 having been 95-1! This bought skipper Ashwin together with Josh Weller and the pair began to drag the score towards a respectable total. Ashwin bought up his second 50 of the season in the final over of the game before falling to the final ball of the innings for 55 and Weller finished unbeaten on 35, BPCC finishing 211-6.

The Sleaford response started in the same fashion as most have in previous weeks, with BPCC taking early wickets. Warren Nel hit the ball straight to Ashwin at mid-wicket, who was able to pick up and throw down the stumps with Connor Harbron well short of his ground, before the Burghley captain found the edge of Nel's bat and Foster took a simple catch. The spin of Mohammed Azhar was then introduced in to the game and he claimed the dangerous Sanders for 18 and Oliver Bean for 23. Hobbiss trapped Charlie Roberts LBW before more good work in the field from BPCC saw Ahsan Azhar run out Ben Lambert with a direct hit from point leaving Sleaford 99-6. Chris Logan was then thrown the ball in order to finish off the Sleaford innings and he did exactly that in a devastating 10 ball burst. His first ball trapped Godby LBW and the very next ball was too good for Oliver Sneath. This became 3 in the over when Collings was also LBW and the end was nigh. Tom Rollinson became the final wicket to fall leaving Sleaford 115 all out. Logan finishing with figures of 4-20, M Azhar 2-23 and a wicket a piece for Ashwin and Hobbiss.

Burghley welcome Bourne 2nd XI to the park next week.
